WHAT IT IS

Roof Underlay / Sarking (Foil-Faced Breather Membrane) is a reflective aluminium foil laminate installed over the rafter or truss structure beneath roof tiles or metal sheets in Malaysian construction, acting as a radiant heat barrier and secondary waterproofing layer. Supplied as rolls: width 1.35 m or 1.5 m, length 30–50 m; single-sided or double-sided aluminium foil with kraft, woven PE, or spunbond backing. Emissivity ≤ 0.05 (aluminium foil face) blocks radiant heat transfer, reducing ceiling space temperatures and air-conditioning demand in Malaysia's year-round tropical heat. Breathable (perforated) variants manage condensation under tiles. Broadly referenced to AS/NZS 4200.1 in Malaysian practice. Installed over rafters before battens and tile or metal sheet fixing.
