Construction-grade meranti timber battens are sawn to a nominal 1×2-inch (25 mm × 50 mm) section and used as secondary supports, ledgers, and bracing within plywood formwork assemblies on Malaysian building sites. The light reddish-brown meranti hardwood (Shorea spp.) balances stiffness and ease of cutting for temporary works. Standard lengths 8 ft (2.4 m), 12 ft (3.6 m), and 14 ft (4.2 m); sold per piece or in full bundles of 400 pieces. Graded for structural adequacy under temporary loading per MS 544 Part 2. Also used as roof battens, fencing rails, and general site carpentry work.
