WHAT IT IS

Bituminous waterproofing coating is a cold-applied brushable bitumen product used to damp-proof and waterproof below-ground concrete, masonry foundations, retaining walls, and metal surfaces in Malaysian construction. Formulated as a rubberised bitumen emulsion or solvent-based bitumen, it is applied by brush or roller in one to two coats at approximately 0.5–1.0 L/m² per coat, achieving a dry film thickness of 0.5–1.0 mm per coat. Typically assessed per BS 6949 in practice. Not suitable for UV-exposed surfaces. Widely available from local construction chemical suppliers across Malaysia in 5 L cans and 20 L pails. Also known locally as cat bitumen or salutan bitumen.
