WHAT IT IS

Steel wire nails (paku besi) are the most common mechanical fastener on Malaysian construction sites, used for formwork assembly, temporary carpentry, timber framing, crate making, and general site work. Bright or galvanised mild steel, available from 1" (25 mm) to 6" (150 mm) in flat-head (common) or oval-head (lost-head) types, with smooth or ring shank. Sold by weight from 1 kg packets to 25 kg boxes. Practice follows BS 1202-1 historical specifications (now withdrawn). Known locally as paku besi, paku bulat, or paku biasa.
