WHAT IT IS

Bakau timber piles are natural round poles cut from mangrove (Rhizophora spp.) forest, prized in Malaysia for their natural durability and innate resistance to marine boring organisms without chemical treatment. Used for shallow foundation piling in soft coastal and riverine ground, fish-cage and aquaculture structures, jetty supports, and temporary retaining works where conventional driven piles are not cost-effective. Individual poles are 4.5–5.5 inch (115–140 mm) diameter and 10–12 ft (3–3.7 m) length. Also known as cerucuk bakau or cerucuk kayu. No formal MS standard; specified by diameter and length per site requirements. Supply is subject to sustainable forestry and MTCC/PEFC certification requirements in Malaysia.
